Methodology
How the calculations work, and how airline rules will be checked before we publish them.
Total trip cost calculation
The comparison tool uses only the figures you enter. For each option:
- Every charge is stored as a whole number of the currency's smallest unit (for example halalas or fils), so there is no floating-point rounding drift. Currencies with 0, 2 and 3 decimal places are supported.
- A charge is one of: extra cost (price × number of purchases), included, not needed, or not known yet.
- Included and not-needed items add zero. Items that are not known yet are left out of the subtotal and listed as unresolved. They never count as free.
- An option is complete only when its base quote is entered and every listed item is resolved.
- Flyfee only says which option has the lower entered total when every option is complete. Equal totals show no winner. This is not a guarantee of the lowest bookable fare.
- The per-traveler figure is an arithmetic average of the group total, not a fare for any particular traveler.
Currency conversion
Flyfee does not fetch or store exchange rates. To compare quotes in different currencies you enter the rate, its direction and its date yourself. Each charge is multiplied out first, converted once, and rounded half-up to the comparison currency's smallest unit. The result is labeled as your estimate.
Limits
Each charge is limited to 1,000,000 in currency units and quantities to 99 purchases. Negative amounts are rejected.
Airline rules (planned)
Airline guides and the baggage tool are not published yet. When they are, every rule will record its official source, scope (operating carrier, fare family, cabin, route), the date it was checked, a review-due date and a named reviewer. Initial review windows are 14 days for numeric fees, 30 days for baggage and fare restrictions and 90 days for general context. These are Flyfee operating defaults, not airline rules. Overdue, conflicting or out-of-scope rules produce "Needs airline confirmation", never a guessed answer.
